Without reforms Belarus risks losing its independence

We first talked with Alexander Milinkevich two years ago. Than he was the candidate for the opposition standing for president in Belarus: an election in which Alexander Lukashenko was returned to power. Despite huge political pressure, Milinkevich has continued to extol the merits of democracy over dictatorship. He has tried to persuade the Belarus government to carry out economic and political reforms which he deems essential. Belarus' opposition leader warns of dangers facing his country.
Milinkevich : one has to be in politics not for oneself

Minsk police broke off meeting with Milinkevich in Malinauka

On 24 April police special forces of Minsk detained Aliaksandr Milinkevich at the beginning of his meeting in Malinauka district. The meeting was part of 2008 regional meetings program of Aliaksandr Milinkevich. The leader of the Movement for Freedom was brought to police station in the Maskouski police department of Minsk. More than З0 policemen took part in breaking up meeting.
