Minsk police broke off meeting with Milinkevich in Malinauka

On 24 April police special forces of Minsk detained Aliaksandr Milinkevich at the beginning of his meeting in Malinauka district. The meeting was part of 2008 regional meetings program of Aliaksandr Milinkevich. The leader of the Movement for Freedom was brought to police station in the Maskouski police department of Minsk. More than З0 policemen took part in breaking up meeting.


Over 100 people gathered for the meeting with Aliaksandr Milinkevich in Malinauka, Minsk district. As meeting begun at 18 p.m. head of police brigade of Minsk (GOM-2) Nikolai Rutski demanded Milinkevich to end the meeting saying that the meeting was not sanctioned by local authorities.

 

Once people tried to protest against this demand of police Nikolai Rutski asked his men to detain Aliaksandr Milinkevich. Police put Milinkevich into a car and took him to the police station where the detainee was held for two hours and a half. The police took Milinkevich so long to prevent him from coming back to the place in Malinauka.


- Obviously the police kept me in their office until a decision was taken by governors from another administration building, - said Milinkevich just after of his release
